What essential tips or advice would make a visitor's stay in our area much easier and more enjoyable (e.g., about food, transport, local customs)?
Cash is King: While some larger restaurants and supermarkets accept cards, many local tavernas, small shops, and beach bars in Albania still prefer Cash (LEK or Euro). There are several ATMs along the Himare promenade.
Best Way to Get Around:
* Walking: Our apartments are perfectly located, so you can reach the beach, shops, and restaurants on foot in 2-3 minutes.
Driving: If you want to explore Gjipe or Porto Palermo, renting a small car or a scooter is highly recommended.
Parking: Himare can get busy in July and August. Our suites provide free parking for our guests .
Dining Like a Local:
Timing: Albanians eat late! Dinner usually starts after 8:00 PM.
The "Xhiro": Every evening, join the locals for the "Xhiro"—a traditional sunset walk along the seaside promenade.
Tipping: A small tip (around 10%) is appreciated but not mandatory if you enjoyed the service.
Water & Utilities: The tap water is generally fine for brushing teeth, but we recommend buying bottled water for drinking.
Stay Connected: If you are visiting from outside the EU, we suggest buying a local SIM card (Vodafone or One) at the promenade for cheap, fast data.
What are some unique, less-known spots or authentic local experiences that only a true local like you would recommend?
Local Secrets - Experience Himare like we do!
Filikuri Beach: Skip the crowds! This hidden cove is our favorite spot for crystal-clear isolation. Best reached by a small boat.
Sunset at the Old Town: Follow the stone paths of the Castle (Kastro) late in the afternoon. The way the sun disappears into the Ionian Sea from the ancient walls is magical.
Porto Palermo's Hidden Coves: Most people visit the castle, but if you explore the coastline nearby, you’ll find tiny private bays perfect for snorkeling away from everyone. Drive a bit further past the castle of Ali Pasha. You will find small, rocky coves where you can swim alone even in August. Perfect for snorkeling!
A hidden gem of architecture and peace, church of saint Spiridhon. The walk through the narrow stone paths to reach it will make you feel like you traveled back in time
